Earlier today, 7th of June, 2018, we visited the Post Office. The excursion is part of a series of weekly activities by the Dewdrops Community Centre for Special Needs in partnership with Tippy Toes Kidcare Nursery School. It is aimed at improving inclusive learning experience for our kids with special needs. It was an exciting experience and the kids had a lot of fun. We arrived at the Post Office at about 10 am in the company of other kids from Tippytoes Kidcare Nursery.
We were warmly welcomed by the post office staff and the children were taught about the functions of a post office. It was explained that the post office is where letters and parcels are posted to different parts of the world. The children were also shown postage stamps, envelopes and a counter as well as a demonstration on how a postage stamp is attached to a mail envelop. Afterward the children were taught how to post the letters and how to retrieve letters from a mailbox.
A Supervisor of the mail office explained to the children the difference between P.O. (Post Office) Box and PMB (Private Mail Bag). He said that P.O Box is for private use whereas PMB is used by corporate organisations. He then showed the children what a P.O Box and mail bags looked like from the inside after which he took the children outside so that they could see how the P.O Box looked like from the outside explaining how it is used.
We all had fun taking photos with the Post Office staff. We departed the post office at 11.40 am. It was an awesome learning experience indeed!
