A VISIT TO THE FIRE STATION

Earlier today, 1st of June, 2018, we visited the fire service station. The excursion is part of a series of weekly activities by the Dewdrops Community Centre for Special Needs in partnership with Tippytoes Kidcare Nursery school. It is aimed at improving inclusive learning experience for our kids with special needs. It was an exciting experience and the kids had a lot of fun. We arrived at the fire station at about 10 am in the company of other kids from Tippytoes Kidcare Nursery.

Upon our arrival at the fire station, we were greeted by a host of firemen. We were then ushered into their multi-purpose hall where Ms. Dooshima Dennis taught the kids a new song about fire-fighters. She also modelled how the fire fighter crawls in a blazing house and introduced the fire extinguisher to us.

We were taught about the importance and use of the fire extinguisher. To help us remember, we were given the acronym PASS:
 P = Pull the pin
 A = Aim at the base
 S = Squeeze the lever
 S = Swerve or sway

Furthermore, the firemen put up a display for the kids. They modelled how to combat fire and drove in with their fire truck; two firemen hopped out of the truck, fixed a hose to the hydrant and turned on the water with considerable pressure. The kids took turns acting like a fire fighter extinguishing fire from a burning building. It was an awesome learning experience indeed! And yes our T Shirt says: Don't Dis My Ability!
